Life has a way of surprising us—and not always in the ways we expect. This blog is my personal space to walk you through my journey with atrial fibrillation (Afib), and I hope that by sharing it, others might find encouragement, answers, or simply the comfort of knowing they’re not alone.
Few surprises hit quite like seeing “AFib” on your EKG for the first time—especially when you’ve had no symptoms and felt perfectly fine. Sure, there are greater heartbreaks in life—the loss of a loved one or a cancer diagnosis with no options—but this still stopped me in my tracks. One minute I was going about my normal routine, and the next I was sitting there thinking, “Why me? What does this mean? How bad is this going to get?”
My diagnosis is only seven days old, and like many of you, I’ve been Googling, reading articles, watching videos, and asking questions nonstop to better understand what Afib means for me. It’s overwhelming, emotional, and sometimes scary—but you’re not alone. If you’ve just gotten your diagnosis too, I want you to know we’re in this together.
Throughout this blog, I’ll be sharing everything I can from my personal experience—what my doctors have told me, my lab results, any tests I’ve had done, and any medical procedures they recommend. I’ll also talk honestly about how my family and I are handling the news and how we’re adjusting to a “new normal.”
Lifestyle changes are a huge part of slowing the progression of Afib, and I’ll be walking you through those decisions, too—what I’m choosing to do, how I’m changing my habits, and what it actually feels like to make those changes in real life. None of this is easy, but it’s all part of the journey, and I believe sharing it might help someone else going through the same thing.
And of course, I’ll also be sharing how my belief in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, as my Savior has made this journey more bearable for me and my family. Faith has been our anchor, our comfort, and our source of strength in the midst of uncertainty. I truly believe we’re not walking this road alone—He walks it with us.
So if you’ve found yourself facing this diagnosis, take a breath—you’ve got a friend here. Let’s walk this road together, one step at a time, with faith, hope, and purpose.
